The 77th Anniversary of National Dog
Week will be September 18-24, 2005. We want to make this the best
NDW ever and we can only do that with volunteers. We have some great
ideas that we hope to implement.
Individuals, clubs, groups, specialty clubs, breeders, trainers, all
breed clubs, humane societies, and veterinarian organizations----you
do not even have to be an animal oriented group. If you are not sure
what you want to volunteer to do Email Babette Haggerty at schoolfordogs@bellsouth.net
He'll be happy to discuss what you can do to help.
Some of the items we are working on are
1) Local NDW presentations. Public Demonstrations.
2) Parades. We have two different types of parades in mind:
a. A parade for National Dog Week on an annual basis. This is difficult and long-range at best. The first city we will attempt to do this in is Los Angels.
b. Supplying a marching unit of all the German breeds of dogs for the German-American Steuben Day Parade that occurs in conjunction with NDW. There are three major cities conducting this parade: New York, Philadelphia and Chicago. We have a firm commitment on the NYC parade but we need a volunteer to be the Grand Marshall of the dog contingent and line up the German breeds. EVERYBODY LOVES A PARADE.
3) School education programs.
4) Health and Veterinarian Educational Programs.
5) Dog Safety
6) Proclamations issued by cities, towns and states for NDW.
7) Adopt your best friend.
8) First Aid and CPR
We have plans and guidance for ALL these programs. Additional ideas
are welcome. This is publicity for the dog but also for your organization
and last but not least you. |
