We are looking for people to bet their State Governor. The National Dog
Week Committee would like to encourage everyone to work on their own
individually or in separate organizations to accomplish the celebrations
throughout the country. One area we would like to coordinate getting the
week Proclaimed is on the individual States of large cities. The reason for
that is too many cooks can spoil the broth and it would be best if only one
person or group approached the heads of these major Cities or States.
Should you live in Possum Trot, Louisiana there should be no one else
competing with you and go for it.
If you have any political connections I would approach them for help but you
should not need that connection. Normal procedure would be to contact the
main office of the State, County, City or Town and ask them what is the
procedure.
Below is a sample proclamation but there are probably people on the Governor
or Mayor's staff that will want to write it. Nonetheless offer them a
sample and gear it toward the community that you are addressing. For
example if you were from Possum Trot, LA it would be good to put "Whereas,
the Catahoula Leopard (Hog) Dog is the State's official dog and it has
helped in controlling and herding range hogs throughout the State as well as
other livestock and a valuable hunting companion, and"
Use your imagination. Below is a sample Proclamation that is a work in
progress. We welcome additions.
PROCLAMATION
Whereas, this is the 77th Anniversary of National Dog Week, and
Whereas, the dog has valiantly served humans for 17,000 years, and
Whereas, the dog has served us in war and peace, and
Whereas, the dog has distinguished itself by delivering the life-saving
serum to Nome, Alaska, and
Whereas, dogs such as Chips and the Marines Devil Dogs have fought for the
United States during World War II, and
Whereas, other dogs followed in this pattern during Korea, Vietnam,
Afghanistan and Iraq, and
Whereas, dogs worked around the clock after 9/11 to find buried people and
continued on under the most adverse conditions to find bodies to offer the
families closure, and
Whereas, dogs have helped children with deep-seated psychological problems
have been helped in many programs to help them adjust, and
Whereas, the visually handicapped have been guided by dogs in ths country
for 80 years,
Be it resolved that September 18th through September 24th will be proclaimed
National Dog Week in the year 2005.
Therefore, I, __________________Mayor of the City of _____________ affix my
signature to this proclamation for all the dogs on this date
